Custom Gunsmithing

Now Available for BigWoods Hunters!

One of the biggest problems I see @ The BigWoods concerns boar hunters bringing such a big rifle that they flinch and shoot poorly. A small caliber rifle is much easier to shoot more accurately, and, by its very limited size, reinforces the notion that shot placement will be critical, i.e., head shots.

From my own extensive experience, I believe that the perfect hog cartridge is the .204 Ruger: it is extremely accurate, and its shock value is tremendous – I’ve never seen a head shot hog take a step after a hit with a .204 Ruger. And it doesn’t kick at all. Realistically, any well aimed .20 cal cartridge will do fine, but the .204, I believe, packs the best load for the smallest amount of powder and has the distinction of being the fastest available commercially loaded round.

Wayne Chapman is a local gunsmith who built me a .204. It shoots ¼ inch groups @ 100 yards with factory ammunition. He builds custom sniper rifles for government snipers and U.S. Marshalls, generally in the .308 caliber.

Given 2 months notice, or more, Wayne can have you a custom built rifle with scope, sited in, with ammo, ready to go when you get here for your hog hunting adventure @ The BigWoods.

I highly recommend a .204 but he can build whatever caliber rifle you want. My preference for components of the rifle is as follows:

1.  A Sako action.

2.  A Shilen stainless barrel

3.  A custom fiberglass stock

I think the best scope for your $ is the Bushnell Elite 4200 6x24.

But Wayne can build any caliber gun made of any components you specify, including Hart and Douglas barrels.

I strongly suggest you consider ordering your own sniper rifle to be ready for you for your next trip to The BigWoods.

Wayne’s phone # is 903 536 1546.

Wishing you the best of hunting,

Robert F. McFarlane M.D.

PS Wayne can also accurize (trigger job, lapping and float the barrel) your old rifle and have it ready if you send on ahead of your hunt. Or mount a new scope or just clean it, site it in, and have it ready to shoot when you arrive.

Also, if you don’t want to spring for a new custom built rifle, you can order from Wayne any commercial rifle of your choice or send one to him to have it accurized.
